On July 2, 2025, a delegation of 32 students and faculty members from the Class of 2022 in the Carbon Storage Science and Engineering program at China University of Petroleum (Beijing) visited OPT Petroleum Technologies Co., Ltd. for an industry-academia practical training session. The visit focused on key carbon neutrality technologies, enterprise R&D platform construction, and talent development strategies, aiming to promote deep integration between industry and education and enhance students’ systematic understanding and hands-on capabilities in carbon storage engineering.

Under the guidance of Ms. Fan, Director of OPT R&D Center, the delegation first toured the company's laboratory, where they observed experimental setups and operational processes in cementing, acidizing fracturing, drilling and completion, oil and gas gathering and transportation, and CO₂ capture, enhanced oil recovery, and geological storage (CCUS).

Ms. Fan then delivered a presentation detailing the company’s development history, core technological positioning, and engineering practices under China’s "Dual Carbon" strategy.

OPT HR department provided an in-depth overview of the employee career development system, emphasizing current job market demands and talent growth mechanisms in the context of green energy transformation. During the technical seminar, OPT Chief Scientist, Dr. Yang Zhen, shared insights into the company’s research and field applications in CCUS, as well as his academic research experiences during his master's and doctoral studies.

In the final session, OPT Chairman and CEO, Dr. John Xiao, shared his personal journey from scientific research to entrepreneurship. He provided valuable perspectives on the commercialization of research outcomes, project incubation, and team building, offering students inspiration and guidance for their future career and research paths.

This industry-academia exchange not only strengthened the collaborative foundation between China University of Petroleum (Beijing) and OPT in carbon neutrality research but also provided a high-quality platform for cultivating high-caliber professionals with both engineering expertise and innovative thinking.
