S3 Acid® - Simultaneous Scale Removal and Stimulation

Typical Properties and Field Applications

S3 acid was commercialized in 2016 successfully and has been applied in various oil fields in the world. It has been proved to be effective in recovery or stimulation of the production rate of oil wells with the following conditions and properties:

Temperature:
40‑275°F (5‑135°C)
Solvent phase:
KWC029
Aqueous phase:
Fresh water, brines, acids

Design guidelines of S3 systems are shown in Table 1. The stability of S3 acids especially at elevated temperature and pressure is important for the treatment effectiveness of the S3 Acid systems. Typical fluid stability (percentage of breakout) of S3 acids is listed in Table 2.

Further information about field jobs is described in documented “Case History of S3 Acid”.

Precautions and HSE Considerations

Multi-functional dispersant KWC018A, surfactant KWC018 and green paraffin dissolver KWC029 play the most important role in S3 acid treatment design. In addition, corrosion inhibitor KMA054 is also used while acids are used as internal phase of the S3 acid systems. S3 acids can be easily formulated for various applications such as cleanup of paraffin deposits around well equipment, removal of mixture of organic and inorganic scales, damage removal or stimulation of formation matrix or gravel and frac packs.

The laboratory procedures, quality assurance program and guidelines for field mixing and handling of S3 acid systems are described in S3 fluid manual.

Refer to the technical data sheet (TDS) and SDS of the respective product for the health, safety and environmental information of each product.
